  • Long-lived, deciduous, perennial,  3-16 ft

  • Partial shade, dry to moist (well-drained) soil with organic content, drought tolerant, cold hardy.

  • Interesting foliage, small thorns, toxic seeds

  • The elegant, showy bright red/magenta tubular flowers are a very important hummingbird nectar source spring through summer.
